چکیده
The mean dithiothreitol (DTT)-activated activity of erythrocytIc -aminolevulinate dehydratase (ALAD,EC 4.2.1.24, porphobilinogen synthase) in 20 nondiabetic subjects was 30.5 (SD 4.0) U per liter of erythrocytes; in 79 diabetics, this activity was 19.4 (SD 6.3) U/L, significantlyless (P <0.001). Further, we observed a significant (P <0.01) negative correlation between activated ALAD activity and the concentrationof giycated hemoglobin in the diabetics (r = -0.58).Hemoly-

In Vitro Effect of ?-Tocopherol, Ascorbic Acid and Lycopene on Low Density Lipoprotein Glycation
Nonenzymatic glycation of low density lipoprotein (LDL) is a reaction of glucose and other reducing sugars with apolipoprotein B100 (apo-B100) lysine residues. In diabetes, this reaction is greatly accelerated and is important in the pathogenesis of diabetic complications. The objective of this study was to investigate in vitro effects of ?-tocopherol, ascorbic acid and lycopene on LDL glycatio...

In extension of two previous series of experiments, the results of which have been partially reported (1), further long-term tests were performed with daily oral doses of 5 mg Pb++ in 2 subjects. Lead in whole blood, free protoporphyrin 9 (III) and 5-aminolevulinate dehydratase activity in erythrocytes, hemoglobin, and urinary 5-aminolevulinic acid and coproporphyrin III excretion values were m...
متن کاملEnzymic capacities for chlorophyll biosynthesis. Activation and de novo synthesis of enzymes.
A previously published working model for the regulation of chlorophyll formation has been tested studying early steps of chlorophyll and porphyrin biosynthesis in developing cotyledons of Helianthus annuus. The activities of delta-aminolevulinate synthetase (ALAS), delta-aminolevulinate dehydratase (ALAD), and the porphobilinogenase complex (PBGase) at any given time have been found to be stron...
متن کاملMore on identifying inherited deficiency of porphobilinogen synthase.
Tishler and Winston recently described a screening test for delta-aminolevulinic acid in urine (1). The test is said to be useful for identification of an inherited deficiency of delta-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (porphobilinogen synthase, EC 4.2.1.24). To complete the picture regarding this recently described inheritable biochemical lesion, we wish to note that the patients described by Do...
